Faffing Friday #3
My week of faffing around on the internet so you don't have to; Tenniscore, gold sink dilemma, the old anti ageing narrative, keeping culturally relevant IJBOL
No paid ads, no affiliates, just me to you.
Week three of Faffing Friday .. I’m on a roll now 😆
Oxford Dictionary meaning of ‘to faff about’:
to spend time doing things in a way that is not well organised and that does not achieve much.
Here’s what I’ve faffed about this week doing …
SHOPPING 👗 I influenced myself and bought the pink dress I drooled about last week. I had a fun conversation with one of my lovely readers and we egged each other on and kept waiting for our size to come back in stock. She tried it on and sent me a photo and she looked fab so that egged me on even more. It hasn’t arrived yet but I’ll keep you posted.
The black and white shift dress from M&S had to go back. It was like trying to get the skin on a sausage. Not a good look. I will never understand sizing.
Once many moons ago I’d have been flapping by now two weeks before a holiday that I should’ve tried to lose some weight. Those days are long gone.
If I do, I do. If I don’t it’s no sweat.
FASHION 🎾 I was going to write something about Tenniscore but I couldn’t think of the words when it came to these shoes 🙈
FUTURE 🔮 I’m no Mystic Meg but I do bang this drum A LOT. The future is silver. ‘From youth-obsessed campaigns to AI-generated biases against older generations, it's time brands stopped ignoring the untapped potential of ageing audiences.’
AGEING 👵🏻 And on that similar vein consumers are afraid of getting older—can marketers shift the narrative?
Jacynth Bassett, the 31 year old fashion designer and founder of Ageism is Never In Style is a great trailblazer for the anti ageing message. She even invited little old me to take part in one of her campaign videos earlier in the year.
Watch this .. can you spot me? #RemoveAntiFromAging
HAPPY NEWS 😊 The world’s first Net Zero island. All can be well with the world kinda news. No actions are too small.
SKINCARE 🧴 My review about FaceWise and addressing the issue of salicylate overload is worth a read from earlier in the week ⤵
CULTURE 💀 In my quest to keep us all down with kids I was faffing about reading a NY Times post about acronyms and it lead me down a rabbit hole as usual. I ended up in this burrow and I was hooked: iykyk deciphering the code of acronyms.
A prize for the first person to tell me in the comments what the skull emoji I used means!!! There is a hidden clue here somewhere 💀
INTERIORS 🚰 I need your help this week.
We are busy finalising the design of a new kitchen. I’ve been hankering after a brass/gold sink and matching taps. Him indoors thinks it won’t be practical and will scratch too easily. He is not his usual acquiescent self on my suggestion. Can anyone back me up on my choice or do I have to submit to him being right for once?
STREAMING 🍿 Vanderpump Villa - sheer escapism and fluff this week for your delectation. This kind stuff helps my ADHD brain slow down a bit.
💡 CREATIVITY 'You're never too old to be creative'. If you haven't quite achieved what you wanted to earlier on in life, then you can look forward to your second creative peak, in your 50s. I know my 50’s were a very creative time for me. I set my current business up just weeks before my 55th birthday. There’s no sign of slowing down in my 60s so far, either.
That’s it for this week’s faffing.
I’m off out for to a friend’s for lunch this afternoon. She’s been having months worth of serious house renovations and we share a love of interiors so we’ll be gassing for hours.
Then it’s a lovely long bank holiday weekend here in the UK. I only realised yesterday and what a pleasant surprise it was. There will be rosé involved.
Ciao for now,
