Faffing Friday Edition #18
Substack Universe, The Perfect Couple, Toe Shoes, Pink Hair & Pup-py Love
My Faffing Friday ‘Stacks are basically a curation of my week - what I’ve been doing, reading, watching, eating, buying IRL or on the interweb.
All archives here.
SUBSTACK UNIVERSE 🧡 I’m going to keep sharing some of the ‘Stacks I’ve loved reading here recently and the new writers I’ve discovered. As everyone gets to know their way around this platform you’ll find there there’s so much lush stuff to explore.
🧡
’s {with } directory of publications by midlife women. I meant to submit but in true ADHD style I missed the deadline. Save the page and come back for more .. there’s so much to read that I’m sure you’ll enjoy. Rabbit hole incoming 🐰🧡
- Sue is an expert in midlife marketing and even if marketing isn’t your thing she’s knows exactly how brands should ‘speak’ to our demographic.🧡 I’m fascinated by Artificial Intelligence. It comes up a lot in my work and the web sustainability classes I teach in my biz. I don’t know if you knew that Mr
is now on Substack but I recommend you read this AI: A Means to an End or a Means to Our End?There hasn’t been time for much faffing this week. What with ongoing kitchen renovations I’ve also had a really busy work week. And then there is the teeny tiny thing of my Ted Talk. YES my Ted Talk. I’m in full on finesse and practice mode as it’s less than 3 weeks away now. EEEEKKKKK!!!
STREAMING 🍿 I always find time to watch something, though no matter what’s going on. It’s how I relax. I’ve managed to binge The Perfect Couple. They are a rich family and there’s a murder on their property. You sort of know where it’s going but it’s a nice easy watch. I mean I’d watch anything with Nicole Kidman in it. And I rate Liev Schreiber - haven’t seen him in anything for ages.
FASHION 👠 My first ever job in my meandering career was as a Cosmetic Pedicurist for Scholl. I trained at their School of Chiropody in Islington after my A levels. I loved that job. I don’t love feet so it was always a conundrum. I love shoes - who doesn’t? I’m forever fascinated about the history of footwear and so unusual footwear will always catches my eye. Check these out…
€3,500 for the pleasure. I’ve got to admit I kinda like them.
Tell me in the comments what you think.
HAIR 👩🎤 Loved reading about Zandra Rhodes this week. I’m always drawn to people who colour their hair. I’ve had my hair so many colours over my lifetime and last had a stint of pink hair about 4-5 years ago.
It’s urged me to order her book ‘My Life in Fashion in 50 Objects’ to take away with me in a few week time.
SPEAKING OUT 📣 Not wanting to end this week on a sour note but we’ve got to keep shouting louder. You’ve no doubt seen more stuff in the news this week about abuse against women at Harrods. I can’t even bring myself to type his name but you know who I mean. I follow Cindy Gallop on LinkedIn and she writes here as
. I like to call her a ‘calling shit out activist’ Read this open letter she wrote to the men of advertising this week: Your seven-step plan to end sexual harassment. It’s time for men in power to step up, or step aside.
That’s it for this week.
Today involves me dropping Barney off for a haircut. This was him one night this week on the bed. Isn’t he adorable? He’ll be sulking for about 24 hours when he comes back 🤣
Just a reminder ..I don’t use affiliate links when I drop things I like to share with you. I do have a paid subscriber option if you’d like or are able or both to support me. If not that’s cool, too — still love that everyone in any capacity is here 💗
Please like, share with a friend, share in a Note, share on another platform; Facebook, Instagram stories .. everything helps.
See you next week x
I have become a sensible shoe wearing woman. Anything with a heel over an inch high has me grabbing walls, rails and people to stop me from toppling. Why wasn't I warned that my sense of balance would be shot to pieces when I hit midlife ? To think I used to do a decent arabesque and wear pointe shoes. I can however still admire gorgeous shoes, and these are amazing!
I wouldn’t usually go for those shoes, Sharon, but I’m rubbish at keeping up with girlie manicures/pedicures, so those gold toes would spare the world the sight of my gnarly trotters in the Summer!
