What The Faff Friday ...
My week of faffing so you don't have to; Hags, Olay Super Serum, Ripley, Joe Wicks & ADHD, Neapolitan Dressing, Junk Food and more.
My new name for this column.
No ads, no affiliates, just me to you.
Also .. don’t be lulled into any false impression made by me that it will be every Friday. I just thought that it was a good name to call it if I did happen to write on a Friday 😆
Oxford Dictionary meaning of ‘to faff about’:
to spend time doing things in a way that is not well organised and that does not achieve much.
I disagree Oxford D .. Faffing brings me joy and helps me escape from adulting 😊
Here’s what I’ve faffed about this week doing …
SHOPPING 👗 I have a parcel that remains unopened since it arrived on Tuesday. It’s still where I plonked it in the dining room. It is from H&M who I’ve got to say I feel more and more guilty about purchasing from due to their greenwashing track record. It’s hard to know where to buy any new clothes from these days so I find I’m buying a lot less new and trying to be more mindful about my buying decisions.
It’s one of the reasons I’m also finding myself spending less and less time on Instagram. That platform has definitely fuelled my dopamine habit.
This is one of the items that is awaiting me in the brown box. I really wanted the red version of this dress but my size was OOS.
Picturing myself looking this elegant by the pool next month in Italy 😆
SKINCARE 🧴 I’ve also bought into the hype of the new Olay Super Serum. It is on half price offer at Boots and once again .. I’m a sucker. I didn’t really need a new serum but as its Olay .. well what can I say?
This is what Olay says okay ..
Level up your skincare with Olay Super Serum, a powerful face serum containing 5 serum benefits in one, for your best skin in every drop.
1. Better Skin Texture
2. More Even-Looking Skin Tone
3. Firmer Feeling Skin
4. Smoother Visible Lines
5. Long Lasting Hydration.
The concentrated formula is supercharged with 5 potent ingredients: Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Collagen Peptide, Vitamin E, and Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA). It penetrates deep into your skin's surface and absorbs quickly without leaving a sticky or tacky feeling. Clinically tested across diverse skin tones and types.
I bought one for my 81 year old mum too so we are both going to test it out.
I’ll be back with a full review in a month or so.
RETIRING 🤑 Is retiring in your 60s an impossible goal? It is for me and I really think it’s time to rethink the timeline, anyway. We are not the same people as even a generation ago. Scary to think that our 60’s decade was deemed a "rough judgement" intended to usher people out of the workforce towards the very end of their lives. Yikes! The end? I’m not done yet!!
The ONS has an interesting timeline mapped out called Journeying Through Modern Life.
NEWS 📰 I’ve felt a bit sorry for Joe Wicks this week. As a very late in life ADHD-er I get why people were up in arms about how his words were apparently portrayed in the media. He’s defended saying it was out of context. He definitely has a point about how ultra processed foods are so damaging in so many ways but you can’t ‘catch’ ADHD. We all need more education around food. I’ve had an unhealthy relationship with food all my life but now I know why. It only took 60 years!
FOOD 🍲 Talking about junk food. I’ve started following Davinia Taylor and her WillPowders brand. I’m not going to rush to buy into it straightaway and turn it into yet another fad of mine. Just watching from the sidelines atm. But I am intrigued about her ‘Ditch the Junk’ messaging.
STREAMING 🍿 I was obsessed with Ripley over the last week or so. Shooting it in black and white rather than showing off the Neapolitan Riviera in all its technicolour glory really adds to the almost inevitability of his actions. We know whats going to happen and the grayscale seems to weigh down that feeling of helplessness. Maybe that’s how it must feel being around someone so attractive but malevolent.
Andrew Scott is captivating. His best gig so far for me. The whole cast was perfectly assembled. I couldn’t decide if Inspector Ravini was good at his job or a buffoon! So close but yet so far with his insights.
Watch it and stick with it even if you don’t care for the black and white ambience.
It’s sooooo good.
DISCOVERING 💡 Hello Magazine has a new hub online called ‘Second Act’. Designed to shine a light on inspirational women living their best midlife. Loved reading about this ‘grey gap year’ and ‘looking better at 70 than 30’.
AGEING 👵🏻 Oh my god do you know how much I love the ‘Hag’ concept? You do now.
Came across this sweater when I was reading ‘Ageing Is A Process’.
LOVING ❤️ Didn’t you just love how Hannah Waddingham put the pap in his place when he asked her to ‘show some leg’ at the Olivier Awards? Here’s how she dealt with the aftermath. Love her ❤️

FOREVER LOVING 💘 my little work buddy, Barney Boo 🐾 He sits here watching me while I’m at my desk typing away.
Ciao for now, Sharon xo
Love your faffing Friday - that Olay serum sounds great but do I really need a new addition to the skincare that I’m grilling right now? Probs not. But I’ll keep my eyes on it! Enjoying Substack reads Sharon and hope to see you over here much more often! 🙌🩷
I have a swimming costume waiting to try on but keep putting it off because I know I won’t look like the model! 😂
