Faffing Friday #4 .. I'm On A Roll Now
Inside ➡ OK Boomer, Men at The Met Gala, F**k It List & Can You Keep A Secret?
LABELS 🏷️ If you’ve been around these here parts for a while you might remember reading about my dilemma. I still have it .. what label should I label myself? Do I need a label? Hell Yeah! Everyone has one don’t they? The must have accessory.
I’m a dweller when I can’t find the answer to something.
This isn’t new but it’s new to me on the same topic…
Get The Party Poppers Out, Scientists Say Sixty Is The New Middle Age.
“If the threshold for being old is moved to take into account longer lives, the proportion of old people actually falls over time. What we think of as old has changed over time, and it will need to continue changing in the future as people live longer, healthier lives. 200 years ago, a 60-year-old would be a very old person.”
I always thought I was a Baby Boomer. And I’ve got to say hate the corny jokes and connotations that come with it. Born in 1963. I missed the cutoff to be a Gen X-er by about 24 months. Apparently though, there are two cohorts of Boomers.
The second half born between 1955-1964 { me then } are grouped together as Generation Jones.
Wiki describes GJ as having ‘ a "keeping up with the Joneses" competitiveness and the slang word "jones" or "jonesing", meaning a yearning or craving.
More labels 🏷️ 🏷️ 🏷️
I’ve done a lot of deep faffing in the interest of cultural research because I find it so interesting.
I could also be a Boomerex like Brad Pitt, Jennifer Coolidge and Daniel Craig. Born in the years 1961-1968. What a gang to be in, hey?
If you’re fascinated with all of this like me you’ll enjoy ’s take on what Boomers can teach Gen X’ers.
SAFETY 🧷 I often feel a bit on edge when I walk our cockapoo, Barney around some of the local fields so I was interested to read this article about women feeling safe walking alone in the countryside. The general consensus of those that answered were that yes they did feel safe in the countryside and that it was urban areas and edges of urban areas where their safety felt threatened.
This made my heart sing this week ..
NEVER TOO LATE 🦋 A new start after 60: after a decade of rejections, I got my first novel published.
So much so that I’ve ordered her third book which sounds right up my street -
FASHION 🧵 I have no idea which rabbit hole I went down to find this on my weekly faffing about on the internet but when I found it I couldn’t stop watching it.
It’s gothic, whimsical and ethereal. A must watch.
The Story Behind John Galliano’s Viral 2024 Maison Margiela Show
I remember catching something about the makeup looks but I couldn’t pull myself away from the whole thing once I started. Galliano reminds me of a sort of Uber stylised version of Peter Pan’s Captain Hook.
I must admit I’m a bit ‘hooked’ on fashion designer bios. Have you seen ‘The New Look’ about Christian Dior and Coco Chanel in post war Paris? Watch it!
While we’re on the subject of fashion, this week it was Met Gala. I don’t know about you but as much as I love looking at what the female celebs wear I really, really love seeing the men’s best dressed lists.
My stand outs were Dan Levy, Alex Sharpe, Jeff Goldblum and always Colman Domingo.
SHOPPING 🛍️ Spotted and bagged this in store at M&S on Saturday before it was even online but now it is. I love it. So comfy. One for the holiday wardrobe.
STREAMING 🍿 I finished watching 3 Body Problem this week. I watched the first episode weeks ago and was a little underwhelmed.
It was still there sitting in my watchlist.
I’m a bit OCD about my watchlist.
They have to be either in there because I’m currently watching episodes or they are in my queue waiting to be watched.
Partly watched doesn’t make the cut.
I’m glad I gave it another chance. I love sci fi so I’m surprised I took so long to pick it back up. This time I couldn’t stop watching and it ended up being another late night binge fest.
The premise is that suddenly across the world science starts no longer making sense. A group of young scientists twig that something is up and being some of the cleverest people of their generation they start trying to make sense of it all. Oh and it also involves a VR game that seems to be light years ahead of anything anyone has ever played.
I give it 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
NEWS 🗞️ This week I had THE. MOST. AMAZING. news.
