Faffing Friday Edition #20
Ageism, a rom-com not to miss, a Baked Kiss, iconic George, Hot Rabbi, saddo Cockapoo lady, a burst of Never Gonna Give You Up & much more Faffing handpicked just for you💗
It’s been a busy work week and I’m in full Ted Talk prep mode. The big day is next week. It’s getting real now. I’m talking about ageism. Have I told you that?
The title of my talk is ‘How Can We Learn To Age Boldly’
STREAMING 🍿 Not much time to watch anything this week but was sad that Wednesday evening saw the final episode of the latest season of Slow Horses. I’ve shared before how that’s one of my faves.
I’ve been keeping up with Married At First Sight. It’s not letting me down. Gotta have that people watching fix.
I’ve got a little something new to share with you.
I saw Netflix’s ‘ Nobody Wants This’ being recommended on Instagram and thought I had to give it a go as I really like Adam Brody. Do you remember The OC? He wasn’t really on my radar hottie wise then as too young. I was more into Pete Gallagher. But he’s matured ha! In fact I love the whole cast. It’s a nice, easy smushy rom-com if that’s your thing. I’m up to episode 6.
There’s going to be a Season 2 as it’s been such a winner.
And I urge you to read more about the Hot Rabbi that is Adam Brody from
‘Why everyone in the entire world fancies Adam Brody right now’ here ⤵️ because she’s spent an unhealthy amount of time breaking down his archetypal appeal. It’s a good ‘un.SHOPPING 🛍️ A candle purchase arrived this week from new independent biz, Velvet Smoke. It’s the second one in their collection. The first one was Filthy Rose. I’ve got to say this one, Baked Kiss is better and I didn’t think I’d be able to say that as I loved FR so much. It’s certainly not what you’d expect for a candle launched in the Autumn. They describe it as,
‘Baked kiss is the scent of summer that we all crave for in the frosty winter months. Sun-drenched salty skin, creamy suntan lotion and a bonfire under the stars.’
It combines the scent of Coconut milk, Smoke, Sea salt, Tobacco, Tuberose, Ylang Ylang, and Sandalwood and it’s yummy although I haven’t lit it yet! My favourite candles spend a little time in my special showcase dome. I mean look at that vessel. Heavy, hand blown glass with colours inspired by the ocean and it’s perfect for my blue and pink decor.
I also treat myself to this cockapoo bust ornament from Next for a bit of fun. I don’t want to be that saddo who buys everything cockapoo related but I couldn’t resist this.
BOOKS 📚 Some new books to add to my book pile but I promise I’ll read these. In fact. I’ve selected these three specifically to take away on holiday next week.
The Missing Piece, A Woman’s Guide to Understanding, Diagnosing and Living with ADHD recommended by a friend. I’ve read a few books about ADHD in the last couple of years but I’m always hungry for more information since my own diagnosis.
Rick Astley’s new memoir just out yesterday. I saw him being interviewed this week on breakfast telly and thought his childhood sounded a bit off the wall and would be an interesting read. He’s everyone’s favourite isn’t he? Are you singing, ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ in your head now?
Here’s a Friday treat for you 🎶
And I bought Digital Minimalism because I’m creating a workshop on the subject so more information to support it will never come in wrong. I couldn’t get my own pic of this as the cover is very shiny and putting the light o yesterday on the dull and dark day it was just made it look awful.
FASHION 👗 I read that studs on anything - on bags, biker jackets and ballet flats are a thing and that’s why it pays off to keep things. Check out my boots on this reel from last summer I’ve never stopped wearing them for about the last 5 years since purchasing and tbh I’m not really bothered if they’re in fashion or not. They are MY style. #shoppingmywardrobe
Loved seeing a bit of Daniel Craig in fashion news Male midlife makeovers steal the spotlight at Paris womenswear shows. Doesn’t he look very relaxed and comfortable in his own skin?
Still on the fashion thread I read that there’s an 80s inspired exhibition coming to London’s Fashion & Textile Museum, Outlaws: Fashion Renegades of 80s London. Right up my street and I mean Boy George - iconic!! It’s on until March. Anyone fancy a meetup?
BEAUTY 💅🏻 Talking about iconic, this morning I’m getting my nails done. It’s time for the Rouge Noir to come out or at least the nail salon’s gel version of it. I know I’m flying off for a bit of late sunshine but I do think it’s one of those colours that can be worn year round. Plus I won’t have time to dash back to the salon as soon as I’m back. I certainly would feel weird in the blustery North East with hot summer pink neon nails. Jenni over at
has a great post with tons of inspiration of autumnal nail trends⤵️PLACES 📍 I’ve always wanted to visit Elan Cafe when I’ve been in London but never quite made it. This week it’s opened up in the Food Hall in Fenwick in Newcastle. So that is exciting. I’m saying that as if I’ll be visiting sometime soon. Newcastle is an hour on the train from me. I probably won’t be up there anytime soon but it’s good to know there’s one not too far away? I didn’t actually realise they had so many cafés in London, Europe and the Middle East. I do wonder if everything tastes as good as it is Instagrammable 🤔
Let me know in the comments if you’ve been.
My Faffing Friday ‘Stacks are basically a curation of my week - what I’ve been doing, reading, watching, eating, buying, IRL or on the interweb.

Lots of love,
I LOVED Nobody Wants This (but why that title? Maybe it's just me that doesn't get it.) Fab characters - the sisters reminded me very much of older versions of my girls (and Candid may be doing a podcast soon - so watch this space!)
I've gone dark berry nails Sharon - it had to be done and you're right - Jen has all the fab autumn nail colours sewn up in her post!
I NEED that candle scent - it sounds right up my beach! I'm currently staving off the S.A.D with kitchen dancing and a spritz of summery scent but don't know for how much longer.
Loved your faffing this Friday - always do! Go get some rest now - and let us know how you get on with your TED X talk - the title is PERF!
Big hugs xxx
I tried the first episode of Nobody Wants This last night and found it a bit TOO cute and smushy. Not sure whether I'll carry on. The Outlaws exhibition sounds interesting. Thanks for these tips, Sharon.
