You’ve probably seen the social media trend for this over the last week. People { mostly women } posting reels on Tik Tok and Instagram imagining they are meeting up for a coffee with their younger self.
As of last Friday there were 16 million posts on Tik Tok alone. {ref NBC News}
The you as you are now and the much younger you.
Maybe the reason why it’s caught on is because we like to think we become wiser and more compassionate to ourselves as we age.
Maybe your older self is disillusioned or feeling let down by how your older self thought you might turn out.
How profound is it/would it be for you?
Will/would it it change anything for you about your ‘now’ self?
The whole thing is actually a riff on the original poem by poet, Jennae Cecelia ..
It’s a journey of self love. A cathartic experience. It’s very 2025, isn’t it?
I think it encourages us to look inwards at ourselves. Maybe offering ourselves a touch of self healing.
Something that the millions who’ve taken part feel they need right now. A sign of the times?
I’m not cynical .. well, I am, just a titch.
I haven’t jumped on the bandwagon.
I can see the point why people might want to join in.
A bit of self reflection never hurt anyone, did it?
Cynical Shazza aside it’s made me think it might be a good idea to write one to my older self.
How will I show up as I grow older?
I think that’s something I could buy in to.
The future is more important than the past, right?
We can’t change the past but the future, what we have of it, is everything.

I find it interesting but they all run along the same lines. I’d tell my older self to keep up with technology!
