Classed as our ‘naughtiest national treasure’. What a delightful title to acquire, hey? She’s July’s covergirl for British Vogue aged 82. I can’t wait to buy my hard copy in a few days. I read her memoirs on holiday last year and of course in my head I read it in her voice. Everyone does that, right? I did chuckle on my sun bed. I think it’s quite brave of Vogue to show older women in such a positive light. Then again they' picked the perfect specimen in M didn’t they?
Whatever happened to middle age? I think I’ve mentioned before I’m soaking up as everythingI can read relating to being 60. Wondering where I fit? Am I still midlife or am I now Later life? What a conundrum to have. I’m in the literal grey zone 😆 The period in your life when you are no longer young but not yet become old.

Hollywood is ignoring it’s fastest growing audience. No surprises that it’s the over 50s they are ignoring. Ageism at its finest from the movie execs and studio heads no doubt just like they do in brand marketing. The demographic is described as, ‘a tech-savvy, highly engaged consumer group with a lot of disposable income to spend on entertainment and culture’ Yes, that’s us .. and globally, not just the US.
I read a great piece of data insight by fellow Substack writer,
over on Linkedin this week,In 2030, the first Millennials turn 50 and by then one in five Americans will be 65 or older. There will be more people over 50 than under 18. The same plays out in developed nations from China to the U.K.
I wonder how that will pan out? Hmmm interesting.
Also check out Eleanor’s platform, Noon. A place that believes midlife is the age of opportunity. Damn right but we are having to fight for it.
Reading The Autobiography of the Female Body by Sara Pascoe. I think every young woman should be given this at school. Hilariously refreshing. I’ll review in full another time.
This week I was delighted to be asked by one of my lovely friends on Instagram, Katie Isles to take part in a new Pro Age campaign that’s just been launched by The Bias Cut. It’s part of their ongoing and tireless Ageism Is Never In Style activism. They have collaborated with the Centre for Ageing Better to end the Age of Invisibility.
A collection of editorial-style stock images of 50+ women to champion authentic, positive representation of today’s women in their 50s and beyondIncreasing the representation of women 50+ in media does not fit with the priority areas for addressing gender inequality
Watch this fabulous group of women share their age on Katie’s reel and see us in all our aging glory. Honestly, the kick ass women I’ve connected with over the years because of Instagram are truly a force to be reckoned with.
Ciao for now xo
