I'm loving your faffs!

As I get older I have become very nostalgic. My sons roll their eyes when I start a sentence with 'I remember when..." so I really enjoyed Wendy's stack about playing out. Being a child in the 60s, playing out was the norm. My memories are about playing in the street or making dens at the nearby common or the railway embankment. I don't really remember playing in. We grew up resilient, adventurous and really good at problem solving. I've worked in education for the last 25 years and it's sad to see how much we cosset children these days. Will it really harm children to go out to play if it's raining and do we need to fill in forms and incident books if they scrape their knees?

Oh thanks so much Brigitte 😊 I’m very happy you are enjoying my Faffs.

Yes the world is well & truly toppling of its axis isn’t it? We were very lucky in the 60s and 70s to have the freedom we had although it wasn’t without its dangers. I think it made us savvy to reading many signs tho don’t you?

Sharon, what a beautiful sentiment to wake to! Thank you so much for sharing that piece, it is one of my favorites—and Eleanor! My goodness, what a woman she was. That piece made me want to write so many more on the topic—two I’ve been ruminating on that will on day come to fruition: 40 influential medieval women over 40, and women’s power in later life in the Middle Ages. Patriarchal histories have robbed us of so many incredible stories of incredible women. Thank you for uplifting and for spending your time with my words. 💜
