A friend once tagged me in a post about these Manolo Blahnik for Birkenstock beauties. They were crying out to be mine. I was excited for a minute. That was until I clicked through and saw the price tag. They were nearly £600.
They sold out.
I would’ve loved them but out of my price range, I’m afraid.
I’m a bit of a magpie in the footwear stakes. I don’t do boring. I like bling.
I really got into Birkenstocks deep in the pandemic. If ever there was a time that Birkenstock could thrive it was lockdown. I think I bought two more pairs in 2020 bringing me up to three pairs.
Prior to that I was just a regular Birkie owner wearing them now and again and packing them in my holiday suitcase.
I think my arches must have flattened somehow and post pandemic I had knee surgery so my collection of Birkies became my comfort go to. Now I have five pairs.
I bought this Black patent leather pair a couple of months ago as my smarter version. {the most boring pair I’ve owned so far} - I laugh at myself even saying that .. a smarter pair.
Reading the quote above in the Telegraph I thought oh I love all of those brands.
I really am an ugly shoe lover after all. What can I say?
I’m particularly fond of this pair .. the bright cobalt blue and zingy yellow make them real dotty stand outs.
And when I stropped over the pink velvet Manolos that I couldn’t have I calmed down when I found this pair of Kurt Geiger ‘pretend’ Birkenstocks on eBay — worn once. Eye catchers or what? They are very comfy too. I was pleasantly surprised.
Really my love affair with ugly footwear happened long before the pandemic. I’ve had Uggs, Crocs and Tevas over the years. But way back I was a Scholl lover. But they had to be extra too .. hand painted versions like these.
I couldn’t be further removed from a delicate kitten heel lover. My taste is the complete opposite.
I know my style and if I could ever give one style tip it would be ..
“Don’t ever be afraid to own your style.
Wear what makes you happy.”
I like wearing my personality and I don’t do invisible and neither should you no matter what your age.
Too many of us think we should stop or not even start wearing certain things because we’ve been told we’ve reached some kind of cultural age limit.
I wear them for me and me alone.
I always get tons of compliments on my whacky shoe selection. Usually from women who say they’d love to wear them but don’t dare.
How is wearing a shoe style a dare or daring?
Wear what you want!!
P.S. I’ve already started wearing socks again with my Birks.
Autumn is coming - did it ever leave this year? 🍂
