Great piece here Sharon! I am 67 and never had any of these thoughts about being 60+. I built a business age 59 about end of life planning which I let go of a year ago, and I've just started writing here on Substack about embracing ageing. It feels like it might morph into a whole new business, although this time with me in charge, instead of the business in charge of me!
Looking back, it seems like I get involved with different projects for average 6-7 years, so if this is anything to go by, when I am 72 or so, there may yet another new one. Or I might have slowing down be the project itself. Who knows? What matters is the enjoyment, which is high at the moment and will continue to be so. Yay!
Ha! I can relate to that, Jane. I’ve just set up a business last month so I have 2 on the go now. And it’s absolutely about the joy of anything and how we choose to embrace anything. Long live enjoyment and curiosity!!
I hear you Sharon but I have my own take on this . I’m almost 64 and have nothing to prove. I’ve had a very full and exciting life , travelled the world, brought up 2 children and now have 2 grandchildren with another due today . I’m self employed and still working 5 days a week ( I love my job) but it’s exhausting and I also have grandma duties. When the weekends come around I’m happy just to potter ( a most underrated pastime) . I’m no longer the social butterfly I once was but there’s also no pressure. I’m comfortable in my own skin, I’m happy in my life . Do I feel like I’m slowing down ? Yes slowly I am and I think I deserve it and I feel better for it x
I hear you too, Gaynor. Sounds like you are calling the shots! Slowing down how and when we choose is an option I reckon. Our choices! I love a potter too. I’ll be doing it today after a day out yesterday celebrating a friend’s 62nd birthday 🎉
Oh, Sharon...I do love you and your inspirational posts! At almost 58, it makes me feel so empowered to see this uprising in 50+ women. Thank you! xx
Thankyou dear Lisa! We’re not done until we say we are!!

Did your new grandchild arrive?
Your words sound so self-loving Gaynor, just beautiful. I hear you - kindness to yourself is oozing out.
