Love this Sharon and such a pertinent reminder that our body isn’t just going to play ball forever—unless we give it a hand! I’ve always done some form of exercise as I was a competitive swimmer in my youth and I realise the older I get the more I exercise for how it makes me feel rather than for aesthetics. I love feeling strong and healthy… just need to work on the carbs and alcohol consumption a bit 😬 🥰
I started CrossFit September 17, 2018. It changed my life. I was 61. I would have never believed it if I had not had the experience. Best thing I ever did. Any movement can be scaled. My husband always said you cannot out exercise a bad diet. He was right. Also, balance is everything. (look up the old man test) Thanks for everything you shared Sharon.
Brilliant, informative post! Now I'm off to brush my teeth while standing on one leg. Cleaning materials at the ready to wipe up the toothpaste that I'll probably throw everywhere. 🤣
I recovered from the stroke fairly quickly, mainly due to I think my tenacity and the fact that I got up every day to walk my dog and keep active . it was brought on by a blood clot on my brain which was life altering in many ways ( and still is) but it made me slow down in some ways and speed up in others . I'm(almost) 64 , still working , still loving life , enjoying my family more than I ever did . Having that wake up call was a massive re-evaluation and I now lead a much simpler pared down life in my lodge on the lake . I think myself very lucky indeed .
Somehow I imagine you with that kind of tenacity, Gaynor. I think we all have things happen to us that jolt us. It’s great to hear how well you are doing 💗
Do you go to a class or just do yourself at home? Your yoga? I only do things consistently if I leave the house to do it. Hence back out at the gym. Although, so far I do enjoy weights more than I ever did all the more cardio stuff.
Thanks so much. You never know how something is going to land do you? It all coming about from my flamingo pose and thinking oh good idea for a spot of writing 😆🦩
Some fabulous tips here Sharon . But one lifestyle change which has really changed my life following my stroke last year is intermittent fasting. I have an eating window of 12 to 8pm . Within that time I don’t go crazy I eat a lot of good protein but I don’t also beat myself up if I want a biccie . But it’s made a massive difference not just on the scales but I feel healthier and stronger. Doesn’t work for everyone but it has for me
I think I remember you mentioning your stroke to me before, Gaynor 🤔 I bet you’ve had to make a lot of life changes. I’ve tried the fasting & I do think it works. We could all do without piling so much in. Like I say I’ve ‘tried’ it. I find consistency very hard. I’m very faddy but at least I recognise that about myself 😆 I think finding out about this gave me a bit of a wake up call … that and my blood pressure!! 🙈

Oh Jacqui I’ll look forward to hearing how you get on!! I can’t believe how much I wobbled when I first started! 🦩 😆
What good tips! I swear by Pilates, but your advice here reminds me there are other things I could/should be doing, thanks Sharon.

I knew I was enduring yoga for some higher purpose… thanks for explaining :-))

Class at my local leisure centre - twice a week. Left to my own devices I just drink wine 😂
🤣
